finding sites like yours The first thing you might do is find websites similar to yours -- ones that share the same topic as yours. To do this go to your favorite search engines, type in some keywords that match your topic and then visit some of the sites. Pick some out that you like and see if there is a page or list of links to similar sites somewhere. Then email the webmaster and ask if he or she would like to exchange links with you. Being polite sometimes helps. finding out who else is linked to a site If you come across a website that you feel is outstanding and getting a lot of visitors, you can find out where some of those visitors are coming from. To do this type the following into the Yahoo search box below: link:http://the url of the website you found Let's use a Star Wars page called the Skywalker Family Tree I made for fun as an example... Type this into the Yahoo search box (and click the "search" button): link:http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/skywalker/ Notice there is no space between "link:" and the URL. On the search results page you will see a list of other websites that are linked to the "Skywalker Family Tree" webpage. You can then go visit those websites and try to trade reciprocal links with them. [Note: The site(s) must be listed at Yahoo for this to work.] submit your site to specific directories related to your topic Again let's use my Star Wars page as an example. Go to Yahoo! and type "star wars directories" into the search box (you don't need the quotation marks). On the search results page you will see a number of Star Wars directories, search engines and webrings listed. Go visit these and submit your site to them. You can use Google, Yahoo and other search engines to find sites related to yours. |
